The school follows the National Curriculum for Mathematics. This describes in detail what pupils must learn in each year group. Details of the Programme of Study for Mathematics can be found on the link below:

Mathematics equips pupils with the uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world. These tools include logical reasoning, problem solving skills and the ability to think in abstract ways.
Mathematics is important in everyday life. It is integral to all aspects of life and with this in mind, at Clarborough Primary, we endeavour to ensure that children develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards mathematics that will stay with them throughout their lives.
It is vital that a positive attitude towards mathematics is encouraged amongst all of our pupils in order to foster confidence and achievement in a skill that is essential in our society. At Clarborough we use the White Rose Maths Hub scheme as the basis of our mathematics programme. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils achieve age related expectation in key concepts of mathematics, appropriate for their age group, in order that they make genuine progress and avoid gaps in their understanding which could become barriers to learning as they move through education. We hope to embed these skills through the repetition of key concepts and providing continuous opportunities develop mathematical arithmetic and reasoning skills.
We aim to provide a comprehensive Mathematics curriculum delivered through high quality teaching to develop individuals who are numerate, creative, independent, inquisitive, enquiring and confident. We also aim to provide a stimulating environment and adequate resources so that pupils can develop their mathematical skills to the full.
Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check
The National Multiplication Tables check is a test for all Year 4 pupils. The purpose of the check is to determine whether your child can fluently recall their times tables up to 12, which is essential for future success in Mathematics. Under the current National Curriculum, children are supposed to know their times tables by the end of Year 4.
The Multiplication Check is an on-screen digital assessment consisting of 25 questions. Children must answer each question within 6 seconds so the whole test will take less than 5 minutes to complete. Your child will be able to answer 3 practise questions before taking the actual assessment.
When we receive the results, we will share them with you and your child. Please note, there is no 'pass mark' and your child cannot fail this assessment. The purpose of the check is to help teachers identify which children are falling behind and target areas where they're not being given a chance to succeed.
How can you support your child at home?
- Encourage children to play TT Rockstars as often as possible. Small 5-minute daily sessions will help children to learn their times tables more than one long session once a week. The Soundcheck is very similar to the Multiplication Check.
- Quiz your child regularly at home. This could be when you are making dinner or in the car.
- Display a poster with all the times tables facts at home.
- Create flash cards with your children and let them play with friends, siblings, grandparents etc. They could write the answer on the back and test themselves.
- Chanting their times tables is an excellent way to learn. They could do this every time they walk up and down the stairs.
